There! finished the cover of the prologue. The first page is in progress, we will be posting it soon!
This scene shows Kinomoto Daisuke and Kinomoto Saori, atop a hill, looking down at their home as it is consumed by flames... the night their rivals, the Azuma clan, assassinated their family.
The overall picture is my work, while Strifey did the fire and the courtyard... the first time I did it, the fire looked like grass... anyway, hope you guys like it and watch out for the first page!

Chaos : Story (c) aria-arissa

Well, for a reader of manga, I guess the most important things for me go like this: the story, the paneling, and then the art. So let's take a look:
The story: With just one page you managed to tell a story. Fantastic! The clothing and weaponry tell of the characters' lifestyle. Off in the distance we see a whole village on fire. Then the speech bubble ties it all together. It's heartwrenching, but it leaves the audience wanting to know why, which is a very good thing.
The paneling: I think paneling is VERY important when it comes to comics. I mean, I think it's the paneling that makes or breaks the story. Paneling for manga is like, word choice or voice for writing, or something.
Anyways, I'd like to commend you for your paneling so for. It's prefect!! We start at the top, "Prologue: The Two Clans" This tells us readers that this is the beginning and probably happened in the past. It also gives us information on the plot: something about two (most likely rival) clans.
As we move down the page we meet a boy and a girl with weapons, what are they doing? Why can't we see their faces? Intriguing! Our eyes then read the speech bubble: "It's just you and me now, Saori...."
That sounds sad. Then we see it: The burning village below. It's implied that all of their family and friends and home just burned. Using the information from the title, ("the two clans") us readers can infer that the fire was no accident. GASP!!
Very good paneling. I also like the font and font size. Easy reading!
The art: I really don't have anything to complain about here. It's pretty! With the blowing leaves and the composition... However, it might be cool to see this in full, professional manga style... Like, inked and toned and everything.
Where do you even get tone, anyway? I've been looking, but I couldn't find any at craft stores... Grumble grumble...

firstly, thank you for the beautifully detailled comment! I never even thought that anyone could look at the picture so deeply... which is why I'm impressed you pay so much attention to the detail. I'm glad, anyway! and yes, for your information, we are going to ink it and get the job done with computer screentones.... so thanks a lot!
and second.... unless you're really, really rich, don't look for sheet screentones in art stores. they are so freakishly expensive, and it's usually difficult to find the ones that you want. so it's just much easier to download it from the comp (just search 'screentones' in DA and you can get some pretty good ones. I hope this helped!

no, it's actually quite easy to create screentones in Photoshop. ^^ let me teach you.
first you open a new file that is about the size of your page, then you fill it with a shade of grey. then you go to Image> Mode> Bitmap. there you can twiddle about with the effects until you're satisfied.
Anyway, it's much easier to download them from DA, there are plenty. and my way might not be the only one, there are also plenty of good tutorials here... so go check them out!
and thanks, again!
